Your skin type will determine the type of facial care products you purchase. If you are not sure what skin type you have, listed below are descriptions of the different skin types along with the types of products you should use:
· Acne Prone Skin: If you have frequent breakouts and your skin is on the oily side then you most likely have acne prone skin. If your skin is acne prone you should be using products that contain glycolic acid. Typically a mild cleanser, toner, moisturizer, a nightly treatment product, weekly mask, as well as a spot treatment are the only facial care products you will need. It is important not to over stimulate your skin and to maintain a strict daily regimen.
· Oily Skin: Oily skin and acne prone skin are sometimes mistaken for the same thing. The main difference between the two is that oily skin usually produces blackheads and the occasional blemish in the oily areas and acne prone skin has blemishes of all types and not just in oily areas. People with oily skin are typically oily in what is considered the T zone and have enlarged pores. The T zone includes the forehead, nose and chin areas of the face. Blackheads are a common occurrence in the T zone. Oily skin is usually the result of heredity, humid weather, or hormonal changes in the body like puberty or
pregnancy. Recommended facial care products for oily skin include a balancing cleanser, pore treatment to help minimize the appearance of pores, clarifying mask, as well as a balancing moisturizer.
· Dry Skin: Dry skin is the result of environmental factors such as weather, temperature of water used to wash face, and even harsh chemicals that are put in products. People with dry skin should follow a daily regimen that includes these facial care products: a gentle cleanser, moisture replenishing mask, as well as a moisturizer rich with nutrients.
· Combination Skin: People who have oily, acne prone, or dry skin combined with another skin type have combination skin. There are several products on the market that target combination skin. Facial care products that should be used are a mild cleanser, toner, balancing mask, and moisturizer.
· Aging Skin: Aging skin is skin that has fine lines or wrinkles caused by age, sun damage, or a combination of the two. While there is no product out there that can actually turn back the hands of time there are several facial care products on the market to help fight the signs of aging as well as prevent them.
