Most people know that removing your makeup at night is an important step in keeping your skin clear and not smearing your sheets and pillow. However, it is also important to remove your eye makeup before bed to lower the possibility of getting an infection. But before you rush off and start scrubbing that delicate skin, consider these instructions to properly removing eye makeup:

• Use a cotton call and eye makeup remover. (Don’t use regular makeup remover; it will be too severe.) Moisten the cotton ball, and use it to rub each eyelid gently until all the color is gone. Some people think that by yanking on their eyelashes while cleaning, they can prevent the smearing of the mascara and other makeup. However, this can be very damaging to your eyelashes. Stick with the rubbing method.
• You will probably still have a bit of makeup that has been smeared onto the rest of the face; so at this point, splash warm water on your face and lather with your normal cleanser, being careful not to get it on the eyes, but still focusing on that area around the eyes that may have coloring on it.
• After rinsing and possibly using an astringent, pat your face dry and moisturize it. Once again, concentrate on the delicate skin around the eyes. They can easily get dried and need attention. Don’t pull too hard on the skin; lightly rub the cream up and out.
