For some people, concealer is a miracle worker; these individuals may carry a small container of it with them at all times for emergencies, and they know exactly how to use it to look awake and flawless. For many others, though, using concealer is a confusing and daunting task, since they often don’t even know what they’re trying to do with it. What is concealer supposed to conceal? Where can it be used?

• Under the eyes. Concealer can be used under and on the outer corners of the eyes to hide dark circles.
• Around the nostrils. Sometimes this area tends to be red and blotchy; a few dots of concealer will blend it in with the rest of the facial skin.
• Beside the bridge of the nose. Right where your eyes meet your nose, there are usually dark spots. A light dot of concealer keeps the eyes looking bright.
• Over skin imperfections. Whether it’s a broken capillary, redness, birthmarks, or sun damage, concealer will neutralize and balance the look of the skin.
• On blemishes. Solid concealer is perfect for camouflaging pimples, scars, and bruises.
