Foundation, Concealers, and Powder

Facial makeup was invented to make your skin look flawless. The trick to foundation is finding the color that is right for your skin tone. Most Caucasian and all Asian, Latin and African American women have yellow-based skin tones. With a yellow based skin tone, you must wear a foundation with a yellow base. Test the foundation along your jaw line and view it under different lighting to make sure the color matches the color of your neck. Testing for color on your hand or wrist does not show a true color match.

To get a sheer look to your foundation, apply it with a sponge and for heavier coverage, apply with your fingertips. Concealers are used to cover blemishes, dark circles, broken veins, or freckles. Choose a concealer that is one shade lighter than your foundation. Set your concealer with powder to prevent it from creasing. When applying powder, press it lightly across the skin instead of rubbing.

Take the following steps to apply foundation:

• Make certain that your hands and face are clean before beginning.
• Apply moisturizer and let it set for a few minutes.
• Apply a concealer over blemishes or dark circles.
• Shake the bottle to mix the foundation before applying.
• Dip your sponge or finger into a small amount of foundation.
• Begin by applying to the center of your face; nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead. Be sure to cover the skin up to and under your eyes. Apply foundation in the corners of the eyes but not on the eyelids as this will cause your eye shadow to smudge.
• Blend the foundation to your hair and jaw line until you do not see any lines.
• Set the foundation with powder to keep it in place and eliminate the shine.
