Makeup has been used to make women even more beautiful since around 4000 BC when the Egyptians first began manufacturing cosmetics. The Egyptian women used dusty kohl to line their eyes and shaded their eye lids with turquoise powder from green copper and lead ore. They colored their lips and cheeks with powdered red clay. In the Victorian era, makeup was thought to be immoral and women had to use their makeup secretively. Queen Alexandra revived the art of wearing makeup and women have been wearing it ever since.
Grown women wear makeup to make themselves appear younger while many teens are wearing makeup to appear older. Makeup should be used to enhance a woman’s natural beauty. Until the 1960’s lipstick was the most important item in a woman’s makeup bag. A woman felt undressed without her bright red lips. When the lips began to pale, the eye makeup became the must have. Layers of eye liner were used both above and below the eyes along with false eyelashes.
Today, most women opt for a more natural look in their makeup. Taking care of their skin has become of great importance to women. According to Bobbi Brown, a renowned makeup artist, “The secret of beauty is smooth, even skin. Master this and your makeup will always look great.”
