What is a spa? A spa, when referring to home furnishings, is basically a whirlpool or hot tub. A hot tub is a large fiberglass tub that uses water jets and air bubbles to sooth aching muscles and engender relaxation. Hot tubs can hold as little as 4 adults and as many as eight. The average dimension for a hot tub that holds seven adults is 7ft. x 7ft. x 36’’ deep. Generally the outside of the hot tub is encased in wood.

If you have never used or enjoyed a spa/hot tub, you really don’t know what you are missing. New hot tubs come with many features such as: water jets designed to go up and down your spine, a foot massage jet, lower back jets, and water features such as small fountains and spillways.

The water temperature is another feature of hot tubs that sets it apart as a premier relaxation unit. Typically the water temperature fluctuates between 99 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The warm water pulsing through the jets allows tired muscles to recover from a hard days work or when you over do it in your playtime.

Spas are becoming a common feature on rear decks and gazebos as well as separate islands in the backyard. It is not uncommon to find the entire back deck centered round the spa. Deck and yard landscaping can be manipulated to create the perfect environment for spa use. Privacy is paramount in the placement of the spa. Some people use trees, a trellis, or wooden separators to garner the appropriate amount of privacy.

Gazebos and spas are a common combination as well. With a gazebo fixed on the remote end of the deck it becomes the perfect canopy for your spa. Some gazebos are even custom built to fit spas in order to provide a seamless, hand-in-glove style, fit.

Spas also come with special lighting. The lighting on the inside of the tub, in many cases, can be dimmed. In addition, many models come with more than one color light. Adding a nice purple glow from within the tub can assist in creating an elegant ambiance for maximum enjoyment.
