Over the years, playground equipment has evolved. Gone are the metal swing sets that topple over easily. Playgrounds are now made up of more modern materials with safety in mind.
Interestingly, playgrounds aren't around just to pass the time. Studies have shown that children develop integral social skills on the playground. In fact, research has concluded that playgrounds are among the most important environments outside the home for children's growth and development. While most forms of play are essential for healthy advancement, the most beneficial type of play is the free, spontaneous play that happens a playground.
