Design Options for Your Outdoor Kitchen

Your outdoor kitchen can be as simple or as involved as you want. Consider whether you want to have the ability to rearrange the kitchen or plan to make it a permanent part of your property. If there is a chance that you might move to a different house, think carefully about spending money on features you cannot take with you. The following list are a few of the components to consider in your outdoor kitchen.

  • The grill – Choose a grill with wheels if you want to have the ability to rearrange and move your outdoor kitchen around or if you want to be able to take the grill with you to a future home. Portable grills are common and come in a wide variety of sizes, features and prices. If you are building a permanent structure on your property, select a built-in grill that will drop into a space on a cabinet with countertops or another base unit that is built on site.

  • Counter top space – This area should be next to the grill and should be able to be cleaned and sanitized.

  • Lighting – There many available choices when it comes to lighting. Remember that direct light is best for the work area and grill and soft lighting creates a better mood for the eating area.

  • Patio heater– Consider adding this feature if you plan to use the space during cooler months.

After you have covered the basics, consider adding extra features like a refrigerator, a small sink, ice machine and wood-burning oven just to name a few options.
