Safety Tips for Patio Heaters

Patio Heaters are built to be very safe and to last; however, there are important guidelines that everyone should follow when enjoying the warmth patio heaters provide.

-         Remember that due to risk of fire, traditional awning, tents or gazebos should never be used over patio heaters. They also require at least 18” of clearance directly above the top of the heater.

-         When finished using the portable patio heater, remember to shut off the gas supply, just as you would a gasoline grill. Also, be careful not to overfill the fuel tank.

-         While most patio heater models are carefully designed for safety, be sure to check and make sure that the one that you are interested in has industry-approved safety tilt switches, sealed burners, flame controls, and electronic ignitions.

-         Keep combustible materials and flammable vapors away from patio heaters. Also do not hang anything including clothes or towels on or near the unit.

-         Supervise children when they are around the patio heater.

-         Make sure that nothing is obstructing air holes and bents by periodically checking for blockage. Things like debris and spider webs reduce performance.

-         Check all fittings and hoses periodically to insure against gas leaks.

-         Service the unit approximately once a year or after a long period of storage.
