Whatever outdoor lighting you choose to purchase you need to install it. There are some safety requirements that come into play here along with where the light is to go. Decide beforehand so you have the yard mapped out. This way you’ll know where the wires have to go as well. Here are some tips to help you in getting your outdoor light installed and working:
· Placing the Lights: At this stage you will place the lights at the spots on the yard where you want them to go. Make sure the outdoor lights are installed in the ground next to the driveway or pathway. Do not install them in the cement. It would make it harder to connect and hide the wires this way. The best place would be near shrubs or near small trees. But not to the point the light is blocked.
· Installing the Transformer: If you buy and install a sideway outdoor light, you will need to install a power transformer or feeder to connect the light to. In order to make sure the transformer is installed correctly here are six steps you can take to ensure correct connections:
1. Make sure you have the correct transformer with the right voltage rating to match the light you are installing.
2. Be sure to mount the power transformer close to the receptacle that the light will plug into.
3. Open the lid to the timer. You may need to adjust this later.
4. Separate the ends of the cable to about three to four inches.
5. Strip about one-half inch of insulation from the end of each wire.
6. Tighten stripped wire under the terminal screws using the proper tool.
· Placing the cable: In this procedure it would be better to use #12 cable. Do not under any circumstances use ordinary indoor electrical cord. For the rest of the instructions do the following:
1. Lay the cable on the ground and form about 6 inches of a loop at each light you are installing. Conceal the rest of the cable where you can.
2. Leave about 12 inches free at the transformer.
3. After dropping the cable at the appropriate position in the ground, cover it with soil to hide it.
4. Now make all connections.
