Cleaning the Grill

Charcoal grills require more extensive cleaning than grilling/using-a-gas-grill/">gas grills, but it is not an exorbitant amount of work. Each time you use your grill, wait until the coals have completely died and then use aluminum foil or a brass grill brush to clean off the grates. Then, once you are sure the ashes have completely cooled, remove the cold ashes.

On occasion, however, you will need to do a more extensive cleaning. Use a wet, soapy rag (or a steel wool pad if it becomes necessary) to clean off tough spots on the inside and outside of your grill. Employ slight pressure as needed, but be very careful applying any pressure with steel wool to the outside of your grill. After washing, simply rinse and dry your grill by hand, or let it air dry.

Look in your owner’s manual for more extensive cleaning instructions. Some models, for example, allow you to touch up the exterior of your grill using paint while other models prohibit the use of paint.
