There are several variations when it comes to awnings. The supporting structure can be made from a number of products. The four main types of materials are aluminum, steel, and wood.

·        Aluminum: This is the best product on the market right now. It is not only attractive and strong, but it also does not require much maintenance. It is also affordable and easy to install for those homeowners who enjoy do-it-yourself projects.
·        Steel: An awning's overall configuration will determine the size and the amount of steel used. All joints of the frame are welded together to provide the strength needed to withstand the elements.
·        Wood: You can coordinate the architectural style of your deck and home. This can be as elaborate or as simple as you want.
·
In many cases, the desired look will affect frame construction. In general, as the awning's surface area increases, the framework’s size and strength must also increase. There are also many other things that will affect the supporting structure and the materials that are used. Some of these factors are things like:  local codes, climate, wind and snow loads and design customs, which all affect awning framework construction.
