Not only are there many copier companies vying for your purchase, each company boasts a wide range of copier types. Each of these copier types has advantages, so your company simply needs to determine what kind of copy machine it needs.

  • Analog vs. Digital: In general, analog copy machines are the traditional photocopiers while digital copy machines are the current trend. Most copy machine copiers are not offering new analog models, but they are more basic and simpler (and consequently, cheaper) than digital copiers. Digital copiers, on the other hand, are more advanced technologically, which means they can do more functions (i.e. fax, print, and scan), are generally more reliable, and produce better copies.
  • Black/White vs. Color: The difference here is obvious, but the choice may be difficult. Color copy machines allow you to easily maintain color in your documents but they are more expensive and require much more maintenance than black and white machines. In addition to a color copier and a black and white copier, some copy machines now offer the ability to switch between a black and white mode and a color mode, so you have three options from which to choose.
  • Business vs. Office: Basically, business copiers are multi-functional machines used for high volumes of work while office copy machines are more basic, lacking the extra features of a business copier.

The above named groups always overlap (for example, your office may use a digital black and white office copier), but these are the basic choices your company will need to make when choosing a copier. Each of these copy machine types is designed for a different purpose and aimed at a different kind of business, so your job is simply to determine the kind of copier your office needs.
