As long as children have had toys, there have been toy chests. Traditionally, one imagines large, wooden boxes that sit on the floor with hinged lids on the top. But toy chests, or toy boxes, can be any container used to store children’s toys.

Any parent will tell you that a child’s toys multiply like rabbits overnight, so a storage system is a necessity. Get your burgeoning toy clutter under control with a sensible, safe toy chest or two. Balls, wagons, and skateboards strewn about the floor are not only unsightly, they can pose a danger as you or your young biped travel across the room. Of the 150,000 annual toy-related injuries serious enough to require emergency-room treatment reported by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), falls are the most frequent type of accident. And don’t forget that small, shiny toy pieces may look irresistibly delicious to the family dog or your curious baby who’s just learned to crawl.
