There are several types of high chairs on the market, so take some time to consider the differences and what best suits your family’s needs. High chairs basically come in three different categories, and range from plain and simple to fancy and decorative. Whatever style you choose, make your priority the safety and durability of the high chair since you will probably be using it for at least two years.
o Wooden High Chair: Wooden High Chairs are often old-fashioned, made out of beautiful wood, are charming and could even be family heirlooms. However, since most of them are antique, there are certain drawbacks that need to be considered when thinking of the practicality of the wooden high chair. For instance, wooden high chairs can be harder to clean and wood stains easier than synthetic materials. Most wooden high chairs are heavy and don’t fold for easy transport or storage. If you do purchase a wooden high chair or have one passed down from family members, be sure that it comes equipped with safety straps that hold baby in place, or can be adapted to do so.
o Metal High Chairs: Metal high chairs can have more features than wooden ones, but still can be heavy and are sometimes not as pleasing to the eye. However, metal high chairs do have folding capability, are easier to clean and can be purchased at a much lower price than wooden ones.
o Plastic/Full-Feature High Chairs: These high chairs can reasonably be called the most convenient, and most expensive, type of high chair on the market today. Certain models can offer features that aid in feeding time like a reclining seat for little babies who are just learning to sit up, well-padded and easy-to-clean seats that can be made of stain-resistant fabric, adjustable heights that are helpful for different-sized parents on the other side and removable trays that make clean-up quicker. Sometimes these trays can even fit in your dishwasher.
Plastic and Full-Feature high chairs often come with wheels that make transporting baby across the kitchen much easier and safer on your kitchen flooring. Also, most models do offer the fold-up feature for easy storage.
