Before you set baby in the high chair for the first time, take a moment to think about high chair safety. Feeding time can often be hectic, but that is not an excuse to be careless when it comes to baby’s safety. Consider these safety tips for successful meal times:
o Always buckle your baby in with the safety straps that include a waist strap and two straps for the legs. There is always a first time for baby to stand up in his high chair or slip out of the bottom. The tray is simply not enough to hold your baby in securely.
o Position your high chair so that it far enough away from the table, counter or wall so that baby cannot push off of these places and tip the chair over.
o As simple as it sounds, never leave your baby unattended in the high chair.
o If your high chair has wheels, make sure they are locked into place.
o If your high chair has adjustable features such as height, reclining seats and removable tray, be sure that all of these latches are locked into place.
o Read the manual and follow the maximum and minimum weight limits of the high chair.
o After you purchase your high chair, send in the product registration card. This is important so the manufacturer can notify you if there is a recall on the product.
o When purchasing a high chair, look for the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) Certification Seal to ensure it has been approved.
