When you first purchase your breast pump, you will want to sterilize all parts that come in contact with your milk before the first use. To do so, simply boil the parts for 10-20 minutes, or wash them in a hot dishwasher. You will want to rinse these same parts in hot, soapy water after each use and allow them to air dry. You should sterilize them after every three or four uses. Any part of the breast pump that does not come in direct contact with the milk does not need to be cleaned as often. If the tubes do not come in contact with the milk, they do not need to be removed and cleaned. If the tubing does come in contact with the milk, simply sterilize them by boiling for 10-20 minutes.
