In 1994 the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina was rated
the top place to live in the United States. Indeed, North Carolina has much to offer:

• Some of the beautiful features of North Carolina include the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the mountains of the North Carolina High Country such as Banner Elk, Blowing Rock and Boone as well as Mount Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi River.
• North Carolina also offers fabulous coastal areas like Cape Fear Coast which encompasses historic Wilmington, the Carolina Beach islands, Kure Beach, and Wrightsville Beach. Other beaches of North Carolina are the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Atlantic Beach and Topsail Island as well as North Topsail Beach.
• North Carolina, one of the original thirteen colonies, has great historical sites including historic battle sites, homes of famous Americans, and old cities.
• Originally inhabited by Cherokee, Catawba, and Tuscarora Indians, there are many sites of Indian history as well as memorials.
• North Carolina also has beautiful rivers and lakes. The most well-known rivers include the NantahalaRiver, the Eno River, the French Broad River, Cape Fear River and Roanoke River. Some of the famous lakes are Lake Mattamuskeet, Lake Phelps, and Lake Waccamaw.
• In addition to geographical beauty and history, North Carolina offers great spectator sports with popular teams such as the professional football team, the Panthers, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, and Duke University’s famous Bluedevil basketball team. In addition, there are many opportunities for individuals and groups to be involved in their own sports opportunities.
• North Carolina has many museums, arts festivals, and art centers.

North Carolina has something for everyone! It has fantastic geographical features, interesting opportunities, and a rich history.
