The city of Charlotte has a wide range of religions that are practiced there. Charlotte is the birth place of Billy Graham and at one time was known as the “City of Churches”. The majority of people living in Charlotte are of Protestant faith with Presbyterians and Methodists being the largest denominations. There is also a large portion of Baptists in the area. The city is home to two seminaries Reformed Theological Seminary and Gordon Cornwell Seminary. Charlotte offers over 700 Christian places of worship. There is also a growing population of Catholic and Jewish faiths in the Charlotte area. Five Jewish synagogues are located in an area of Charlotte known as Shalom Park. Charlotte also has five mosques and a Hindu Center by the name of Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha Temple. Unconventional religions such as Unitarian Universalism also have churches in Charlotte.
