When an organization wants to establish itself as a nonprofit, it must file articles of incorporation with the state it resides in. Also, depending on the state, the law specifies that nonprofit organizations also register with state charity bureaus. At the time the corporation is given tax-exempt status, it does not have to pay federal income tax.
What about the staff? Yes nonprofits do hire staff to work in the organization. They also bring on board volunteers as well. The people who work for nonprofits are mainly there to care for responsibilities including:
· Administrative – Administrative people run the corporation and help raise funds, manage the budget, and handle daily business operations.
· Service – Service workers are responsible to make sure the mission of the organization is carried out. They are there to carry out any kind of service that is required by the organization.
What about a budget? Where does the nonprofit organization get its money from? Most nonprofits earn their money through programs they run or by charging service fees for certain tasks. But the majority of the money comes from fundraising. If the nonprofit cannot get enough money together through fundraising, they sometimes partnering with other organizations. This way they can share many resources including office space, administrative tasks, fundraising, and more.
