The biggest part of finding possible grants is research, research, research. If you are not willing to invest time and energy into research, you probably are not going to be awarded any grants. The three major sources of grant money are the Federal and State governments, private foundations, and corporations. And these categories are full! The stores you shop in, your insurance company, and your favorite eating establishment all probably give some money to grants. So your options are great! But how do you find out what their grants are for and who they will award them to? The library and the internet will be your two biggest sources for information about these available contributors in your area and others around the country.
Once you think that you have located some possibilities in your grant search, carefully examine the sponsor’s requirements. If you do not meet the criteria completely, don’t apply. By ruling out the groups that would rule you out, you save yourself time and energy; and you better your chances of being awarded a grant.
