The following quick tips can aid in keeping you on track to a successful fundraising event:
• If possible, time your event to take place at a time where buyers are not being approached by every other school or organization in town.
• Attempt to find a fundraiser that will bring in enough money that you will not be forced to have too many campaigns throughout the year. You don’t want your buyers to become weary of being approached for money.
• Give yourself plenty of time to prepare for a campaign. Get your event on the calendar long before it is time to begin.
• Select a fundraising company with a good reputation for quality products and timely deliveries. Have a clear understanding of their percentage of profits and the services which they are willing to provide to you.
• Be on the alert for hidden costs that can take away from your profits, such as shipping costs.
• Work closely with your sellers to be sure they have their order forms filled out completely and that they are legible.
• Check orders carefully for mistakes.
• Make and keep copies of all forms before sending them to the fundraising company.
• Solicit volunteers to help tally and package orders during the campaign.
• Always approach potential buyers with courtesy and honesty.
• If a potential buyer turns you away, always be polite and thank them for their time. The next time you are selling a product they may be interested and will remember the manner in which they have been treated in the past.
• Make a fundraising campaign fun for everyone involved.
