Approaching the Buyer

Before beginning a fundraiser, take the time to discuss with your group safety precautions and practical selling techniques. Don’t forget if working with students, you should have signed permission slips from parents before beginning door to door sales.

• Students should always be supervised by an adult.
• Students can telephone friends and family members rather than going door to door. Parents can help by selling the products in their places of employment.
• First impressions are very important so remind everyone to dress appropriately and greet each potential buyer with a smile.
• The seller should begin by introducing themselves and their organization before asking for a sale. Explain the cause for which they are trying to raise money.
• When taking an order, have a pen available for the buyer to fill out the order form. Explain all pertinent information, such as price, expected delivery time, and method of payment.
• The buyer should always be graciously thanked for the sale.
