The official name of Nicaragua is the Republica de Nicaragua. The capitol city is the city of Managua; and, it is also the largest city in the country. The official current president is Enrique Bolanos. Spanish is the official primary language that is spoken in Nicaragua, although there are places where English is spoken quite readily. There are also places in the country where the languages of the indigenous people are still spoken. Roman Catholic is the predominant religion, vastly outnumbering those claiming to be of a Protestant faith. The official estimate of the population in 2003 was 5,482,340 people. Some parts of the country does have modern convenience such as electricity, telephone, and the Internet. The people of Nicaragua celebrate several of the same holidays the we in the United States do, such as Christmas; however, some of them fall on different day, such as their Independence Day. They also celebrate some holidays that are unique to them and their culture. Only in recent years have the people of Nicaragua picked up cattle farming and growing exportable products as a profession. Before it was simple growing what was needed in the country and harvesting that.
