The Pacific Lowland region of the country of Nicaragua is the most populous. Several of the major cities are located in this region, including the capitol city of Managua, Leon, Granada, and Jinotega. It is described as hot and has soil that is fertile, due in part to the several active volcanoes that are located in that region. This region also has a mountain range that runs through it, in which the volcanoes are located. The Central region is a higher plateau landscape than the Lowlands that border it. It also has a somewhat cooler climate than the Lowlands on either side of it. Most of this region is a rainforest landscape; and, therefore, the population in this area is significantly lower than the population in the Pacific Lowlands. The Central region is where many of the exports, such as coffee, are grown. There is also a wide variety of wildlife in the Central region, due to the rainforests. The Atlantic Lowlands is also mostly covered with rainforests and also has a very low and scattered population. The temperature and humidity are notable higher in this region than in the other regions of the country. Animals are also very abundant in this region as well.
