When you visit the New Zealand area you will find that there is a great deal of animals that can be found in the area and whilst you may see some rarer animals, there is a wide variety that has resided in the country for many years.

Birds have always been a major part of the animal population and many then and today are flightless like the Emu or Kiwi. It is said that because there was once no land based enemies, many birds lost the ability to fly rather than being born with this trait.

Whilst the animals were once kept isolated, it wasn’t until 150 yeas ago that creatures like deer, rabbits and different types of fish
were introduced by European settlers. The Maori made their contributions by bringing dogs (kiri) and rats to the area.

Today, the local government take the importing of plants, fruits and animals very seriously because without relevant permission, it can upset the economical balance.
