Wellington can be found in the northern island of New Zealand just beyond the Cook Strait that divides the two islands. It is the capitol city for the two islands but despite its status, Wellington only has a small population compared to areas like Auckland on the Southern island but this doesn’t remove the fact that overall Wellington too has a great history and plenty of activities to take part in.

Within Wellington you will find that the total combined population for the capitol is just over 550,000 people, only 160,000 reside in the city area and just over 423,000 are found on the outskirts of the inner city area.

This will be a benefit if you love the arts and/or literature because Wellington has been known as the arts and culture capitol of New Zealand with a variety of art galleries and museums that are common in the area. It is also known that the majority of artists, writers, poets and other famous individuals have come from Wellington over any other area throughout the country and that is not all, the capitol has many beautiful natural beaches, rolling hills and long coastline that it was the choice for many parts of the Lord of the Ring’s trilogy which was filmed in the area.
