The Southeast corner of the state contains the city of Roswell, famous for its so-called visitors from outer space. Also, Carlsbad Caverns is a natural wonder worth stopping for – the underground caverns are filled with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. White Sands National Monument is where the world’s first atomic bomb was detonated, where Billy the Kid died and where you can see the remarkable sight of snow white dunes rising out of the desert landscape.
