» The Great North Woods
If the White Mountains are too busy and commercial for you, or perhaps just not quite rugged enough, you might want to head for the Great North Woods. You can kayak down the Androscoggin River through classes at Saco Bound’s Northern Waters. If that is too much of an adrenaline rush for you, stick to the lovely state parks: Dixville Notch State Park and Umbagog Lake State Park.
Dining in the Great North Woods:
Besides the dining available at a couple of resorts, there aren’t too many choices this far up into the mountains. Gather provisions farther south for your journey.
