» The Cornish Region, Hanover, and Lake Sunapee Region
This region of New Hampshire boasts the nation’s longest covered bridge, the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge. It spans the Connecticut River between Vermont and New Hampshire and checks in at 450.5 feet long at floor level.
The region’s artistic roots are remembered at the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site. It features nature trails and a tour of the home of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the famous sculptor who called the area home.
Lake Sunapee is great for
boating, fishing, and swimming. At
Sunapee State Park you can hike, snowboard, ski, and even ride a gondola to see the sights from the water.
Many of the activities in Hanover revolve around Dartmouth College. The Baker Memorial Library is wonderful to wander through and the Dartmouth Bookstore is a treasure trove of interesting reading material. The Hood Museum of Art is one of the oldest college museums in the country.
About 20 minutes south of Hanover is the Enfield Shaker Museum. It is comprised of a collection of buildings on Lake Mascoma.

In Hanover, the Daniel Webster Room in the Hanover Inn offers the best fine dining in the area. The style is contemporary American, with an oft-changing menu. Murphy’s on the Green serves traditional pub fare, with an atmosphere to match. Canoe Club has a late-night menu for the night owls. You can usually count on them for good live music as well.
