Day Two

Make your first priority on day two of your trip visiting Amsterdam’s most popular attraction, Anne Frankhuis. It is the canal house where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis, living in almost complete silence for over two years. Anne wrote her famous diary here before her family was captured and sent to concentration camps. It is a sobering place to see, but something every visitor to Amsterdam should not miss.

Lines can be very long, especially during the busy summer tourist season, and your best bet is to arrive as early as you can. Once you are inside, take your time. You can finish the tour in about an hour, but you might want to spend extra time soaking up the experience. It is one you will not forget.

When you are finished, make your way a few blocks over to The Jordaan. It is a fun and funky area, somewhat comparable to New York’s Soho or Greenwich Village. You will find numerous shops to poke around in and lots of great places to eat.

You might want to grab some coffee and do some people watching. If so, there is one important fact to know. “Coffee Shops” are actually establishments dedicated to smoking the legal marijuana the city is somewhat famous for. If you want an actual cup of coffee, go to a café or an eetcafé.
