Because car bike carriers are a specialized market they tend to be fairly expensive. Typically anything custom made is going to be expensive. Sometimes, depending on your car’s roof, you may even have to buy special torsion bars to help stabilize the rack. This is typical for cars that have rounded roofs. A specialized set up such as this can cost close to $400. A regular roof rack, without the torsion bars, will cost close to $300. You can expect the same price range for rear insert carriers. However, depending on how many bikes the carrier holds, the price range may increase considerably.
