Not many people realize that most motorcycle injuries occur below the belt. Your legs and feet are extremely vulnerable; so make sure that you wear protective pants. The pants should be reinforced at the knees and hips; ideally they should attach to your jacket by a zipper.

Traditional material for motorcycle clothing is leather, but thick nylon and other synthetic materials work well too. Kevlar reinforced jeans are better than normal jeans.

The mesh motorcycle clothing phenomenon is relatively new, but the basic mesh material has evolved beyond the novelty stage and is now readily available.

Mesh clothing has both revolutionized and revitalized the warm weather motorcycle clothing market. Mesh has become a favorite summer outfit and has extended the riding season by providing comfort on days when you wouldn't think of riding in leather.

Of course leather pants are the safest kind of pants for motorcycle riding. The best protection a rider can wish for when caught in a crash. Most riders wear a motorcycle jacket but fewer wear motorcycle pants. This is despite the fact there is actually far more risk of injury to the legs than to the upper body or arms. Four out of five motorcycle casualties have injured their legs and a third have broken bones. Arm injuries are less common and less likely to involve fractures.
