» Motorcycle Pants Overview
Some pants offer more motorcycling protection than others. As a bare minimum, denim is OK. A typical pair of blue jean can provide better abrasion resistance than some thin fashion-grade leather pants. To get better protection, you should wear clothing that is specifically designed for motorcycle use.
Motorcycle chaps are comfortable, and once you get the hang of putting them on, they're fast and easy to wear. They surely must offer more protection than just a pair of jeans, and they can be slipped off and stuffed into pretty much any old saddlebag once you arrive at your destination, leaving you free to stroll around in denim.
Chaps (short for chaparajos) are sturdy leather coverings for the legs. They are buckled on over one's trousers and belt with the chaps' integrated belt, but unlike trousers they are not joined at the crotch.
