Motorcycle Goggles Provide Eye and Face Protection

When you're riding your motorcycle, your eyes need protection from wind, dust, rain, insects and debris (including debris thrown up by other vehicles).

Face shields, visors and goggles provide suitable protection. They must:

• Be clean and free of scratches
• Be made of material that does not shatter
• Give a clear view to either side
• Be fastened securely so they cannot be blown off
• Allow air to circulate so they won't fog up. (Anti -fogging products are available)
• Allow enough room for glasses or sunglasses, if you need to wear these.

If you're riding and your eye and face protection becomes smeared, pull over to the side of the road as soon as it is safe to do so, and clean it.

If your eye and face protection becomes cracked, you may need to remove it or, in the case of visors or goggles, ride with the visor up. A damaged visor or goggles should be replaced as soon as possible.
Eye Protection: Since many motorcycles don't have windshields, riders must protect their eyes against insects, dirt, rocks or other airborne matter. Even the wind can cause the eyes to tear and blur vision, and good vision is imperative when riding. Choose good quality goggles, glasses with plastic or safety lenses, or a helmet equipped with a face shield. Goggles, glasses, and face shields should be scratch free, shatter proof, and well ventilated to prevent fog buildup. Only clear shields should be used at night since tinted shields reduce contrast and make it more difficult to see. Even if your motorcycle has a windshield, eye protection is recommended.

Warning: Tinted eye protection should not be worn at night. Eyeglasses and sunglasses are not made to protect riders, and they can blow off when your head is turned. If you wear glasses, also use a face shield.
