When you're talking about motorcycles, "hot" is a relative term.
An 800-pound Harley-Davidson might not be all that appealing to a 120-pound biker trying to back into a parking space. A Vespa scooter isn't an object of desire to a seasoned rider who wants to blast from zero to 60 in three seconds over suburban roads on weekends. One enthusiast's screaming sport bike may jar the wrists and back of another, and a plush cruiser might bore someone obsessed with speed.
Happily for bike nuts, however, motorcycle sales continue to explode. And that means a slew of new models aimed at the tastes of an ever-more-demanding motorcycle-riding public seeking their proverbial freedom -- not to mention the best bang for their gas buck. Motorcycles and scooters have always gotten good mileage, but today many achieve 50 miles to the gallon, and some get up to 80, making owning one particularly appealing in these days of pump agony.
