With an average annual snowfall of 36 inches in the southwest to more than 70 inches along the Lake Superior “snow belt,” Minnesota is a veritable “Winter Wonderland.”

The southern half of the state is generally warmer and more humid in summer than the northern half, and yet the average July temperature in Minneapolis-St. Paul is a mild 74F). Occasionally there are hot, cloudless days, and these are often accompanied by thunderstorms that may bring heavy downfalls and an occasional tornado.

The average annual rainfall in Minnesota ranges from nearly 18 inches in the far northwest to more than 32 inches in the southeast.
