The largest of all the midwestern states, Minnesota is located along the U.S.-Canadian border, about halfway between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. With more than 4.9 million residents, Minnesota is the 21st most populous state. More than half of the population is concentrated in the southeast, in the single metropolitan area of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
