Is there any value to Conflict in the Workplace?

Conflict is unavoidable. As long as there are individuals in this world, we'll have individual opinions, beliefs, values, and ideas on every conceivable topic. And that, unfortunately, leads to conflict. It's what we do with conflict that makes it good or bad.

When handled constructively, conflict can be a good thing. "Constructively" is the key word; that means respectfully, professionally, and kindly, with clear communication, concessions for other people's views, and an effort to find a compromise. At the very least, both people need to agree to disagree, but work together to find a workable solution, no matter what.

After working together to find a solution, people can find themselves closer, more understanding of each other, enjoying their jobs more because of their ability to cope, better relationships with co-workers, and heightened awareness of conflict and how to work through it, if not avoid it.
