Los Angeles offers many museums for the tourist to visit. From art and Holocaust exhibits, hands-on activities and a wax museum, there is a museum from the stuffiest to the most hyper visitor.
Getty Center: This museum has received a lot of publicity due to its stone and glass design by Richard Meir. The center looks like a convention center not a world-class art museum. This museum is home to beautiful grounds, large exhibition spaces and extensive art collections.
Hollywood Wax Museum: This fun and fascinating museum opened in 1966 for the simple reason to let people experience Hollywood. This wax museum is dedicated to showing celebrities and attracts thousands of visitors each year from across the world. Exhibits include animated sets and lifelike realistic wax figures of the stars. This is one of the top attractions on Hollywood Boulevard.
American Film Institute: This institution was founded in 1965 and is one of the most quality places to study film in the world. It is the sponsor of the Los Angeles Film Festival each year. This institute offers courses to filmmakers and the general public. It also works at preserving films. There is no admission for tours.
Museum of Tolerance: This hands-on museum demonstrates the dynamics of racism and prejudice in America. It promotes equality and tolerance in society. This museum also explores the history of the Holocaust. Exhibitions include moving and creative exhibits. More than 100,000 children visit this interesting museum each year. This museum seeks to make a difference in each person who visits.
Museum of Contemporary Art: This museum is a strong force in the contemporary art culture in the United States. During the summer of 2002, an Andy Warhol exhibit made its only North American stop. The museum has a permanent collection of work from after 1940.
California Science Center: This interactive museum is 245,000 square feet of fun for the entire family. Activities include a high-wire bicycle ride, a chick hatchery, a replica of the human body and an IMAX theater. This museum has something for everyone.
