Telematics has many uses and is involved in many ways. But the main use of it is to send, receive, and store information by way of telecommunication devices. In particular, telematics is used in Global Positioning System technology. This technology integrates computers and mobile communication technology.
Global Positioning Systems (GPS) is known as a satellite navigation system. It is based on the use of GPS satellites to broadcast signals that are timed to radio receivers, which allows them to accurately determine their location, no matter the climate or weather.
The main use, as was stated above, is with vehicles. In this case, vehicle telematics systems may be used for a number of reasons including collecting tolls, keeping track how many vehicles travel over certain roads, tracking fleet vehicle locations, locating and recovering vehicles that have been stolen, giving automatic collision information during an accident, and provide information to drivers when a position is required. Vehicle telematics is even involved in remote diagnostics. A vehicle’s built-in system will identify a problem, whether it is mechanical or electrical, and will provide this information to the manufacturer or service station.
