Pick and Pack and Supply Chain Management

As was stated earlier, pick and pack is a smaller version of the larger scale operation of supply chain management. If this is so, how do the two relate? Well supply chain management involves the process of planning, implementing, and maintaining control over the operations of the supply chain. Breaking this down further it correlates to having an order processed, picked, packed, and finally delivered. This is done to make sure the customer is satisfied with the product and timeliness of delivery. This being the case, supply chain management handles all movement of raw or finished goods, making sure all raw goods being used for production are used according to schedule, and overseeing the delivery of finished goods, making sure they arrive at the customer’s location in good condition and on time.

As you can see, from the description above, the pick and pack system is an offshoot or continuation of the supply chain. In other words, the pick and pack system is a part of the supply chain management operation, just on a smaller scale. If you instituted a supply chain management system in your company, pick and pack operations would be included automatically, since that system is part of the supply chain management operations.
