When dealing with a business, there are many facets to it that must be considered. You have your sales team, customer service representatives, warehouse, accounting department, and of course marketing. Of marketing, there are four aspects that must be present and working for marketing to be affective. One of these four aspects will be covered in this article. This aspect is distribution. Distribution is based on the idea that a middleman is responsible for seeing to it the products get into the customer’s hands. Distributing products is not all that easy. There are many issues that need to be addressed. Some businesses rather use an outside source for the distribution and logistics of it, but others prefer to do it in-house. Either way, there are important facts to consider in distributing products. Some of these issues include:
• Shipping in different countries: If your products are sold everywhere including internationally, just how do you intend on reaching these countries with your product? How will you do it? Are you going to use a special carrier service?
• Logistics: You have to look at the process of getting your products you’re your place to another place and decide how that is to be done. Who will play a role in transporting the products? How will delivery be accomplished? What about shipping costs?
• Using an agent: Many businesses know how hard it is to accomplish this feat of import and exporting goods. So they hire someone who will do it for them. They pay a price and let someone else handle the difficult parts, while tackling other issues.
• Paperwork: Here is where the work gets troublesome. If work could be done without paperwork, things would get done faster with fewer headaches, however, in the real world this is not possible. Therefore, paperwork must be taken care of. This means everything that pertains to moving the goods from one place to another must be taken into account and justified in writing. This makes it easier to keep track of everything.
• Risks: As with any type of movement within a company, there are risks involved. When this happens you must evaluate those risks and resolve them. If you don’t you are likely to find yourself in a precarious position.
• Responsibilities: When you are dealing with overseas shipping, you better know if you need a license or not. You may even need an export health certificate just to go through customs. Also, you must consider whether or not the country you are selling to have sells tax. Because if it does, you will need to include that with your costs to that country.
