Housing is another part that make up a recessed light. There are new construction housings that are for new homes or new additions where the ceilings are totally open for wire work. Remodels are the type of housing needed for any remodel work. They are installed into a finished ceiling. The following are the types of housings available in both new construction and remodel housings:
·        Incandescent: Incandescent housings use “A”, “R”, and PAR lamps in incandescent and halogen versions. An incandescent housing is best used when a general, accent, or wall washing light source is needed.
·        Low Voltage: These housings work with MR16 as well as PAR36 lamps. One advantage of low voltage housing is that when it is used for accent recessed lighting it allows you to aim the recessed light directly where you want it. Low voltage dimmers are required when dimming is used.
·        Compact Florissant: A compact florissant housing has ballasts for energy efficient compact florissant lamps. They are great choices if energy conservation is important to you and work for general and wall washing lighting.
