For some people when choosing a lamp the decision is made based on decorating rather than lighting. The main types of lamps include:

·        Desk Lamps: Desk lamps are lamps that are placed on a desk or workstation. Generally not large in size these lamps usually call for a light bulb low in wattage. The reason being that desk lamps are meant to illuminate the work on your desk and not light an entire room.
·        Table Lamps: These lamps tend to be more for decoration rather than a main lighting source. Table lamps come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The wattage of their light bulb depends on the size of the lamp. A smaller table lamp needs a lower watt light bulb usually around 30 watts. Medium and large table lamps can sometimes use a light bulb with a little higher wattage. Table lamps almost always have a lamp shade.
·        Floor Lamps: Floor lamps are exactly what they sound like. They are lamps that go on the floor. Usually with a tall base and then the bulb being at the top of the base. Floor lamps are an excellent source of light and are often used as the main light source in a room. The wattage used in a floor lamp light bulb is usually that of 60 or higher. Not all floor lamps have shades. Some are designed to have a shade with in the design of the lamp itself.
·        Lava lamps: Not generally used as a main source of lighting. Lava lamps are a fun way to enhance a room. They gained popularity in the 1960’s and 70’s but are still widely sold today.
