There always seems to be one ingredient among all homes, and that is the lack of lighting. Although there may be high wattage light bulbs used, still in many situations, the lack of lighting is apparent. So you think about adding lighting to your home. The question is what kind of lighting is best? There are many different types of lights to choose from. Before you go to buy any light fixtures you need to know that there are lights that help you conserve energy and lights that are standard. The lights that help you conserve energy are fluorescent lighting. There are two types of fluorescent lighting systems – the ballast type and non-ballast type. A ballast is a device that sends current to the light bulb at a certain time and prescribed voltage level. The non-ballast type has bulbs that are made with a mini-ballast included in the bulb. Because there are so many types of fluorescent lighting you have to know what to look for. But before you go out and buy one it is good to understand some things first. Knowing some pointers will make your shopping experience a bit better and will allow you to shop with a keener eye. Here are the tips to think about:

·        Payment Options: When you go to a store and find what you are looking for and you go to the register to pay for the lighting, you find yourself embarrassed because you don’t have cash to pay for it and your credit card was declined. Before you even step inside the showroom, find out what credit cards they honor. Make sure you have that card in your wallet, or you will be wasting your time.
·        Shipping: After you purchase your fluorescent lighting system, will the store ship it to you or do you have to take it home yourself? In many cases, the light will come in a box as a kit you have to put together. If not, will they deliver and install it or will you do that part? If they do offer shipping, is the amount part of the order or do you pay it separately?
·        Returns: One big point that will either make or break the sale is the store’s return policy. Does the store have a money-back guarantee? And if they do for how long? Is it seven days, 10 days, 15 days, 30 days, or longer? If you do need to return the fluorescent lighting system, will they pick it up for you (if they delivered it), or do you have to drag it to the store? If you do receive damaged merchandise, is the replacement process quick and easy or a hassle?
·        Home Décor: What is your home like? What color? What style do you like? Before you buy any lighting system, you better decide which type of system you want. After all there are so many types to choose from including chandeliers to table lamps.
