» What is your style/decor?
· Style: Chandeliers come in a variety of styles such as artisan, contemporary, country, period/antique, or traditional. Take into consideration the style of your home or office and the style of the room in which the chandelier will be hung before deciding on the style of chandelier. Many home improvement stores have a wide selection of chandelier styles available. There are also many internet stores that sell chandeliers.
· Materials: Chandelier materials include many different products. Brass, wrought iron, and other metals seem to be the most popular. However, wood, glass, resin, paper, stone, and other natural materials are also available.
· Color/Finish: Use the colors and fabrics in the room to coordinate with the chandelier finish and fixtures. Chandelier finishes should be both durable and handsome. Matte finishes such as brushed metal, aged and weathered patinas blend smoothly over a variety of décors, where as painted and textured finishes are more informal.
· Glass Type/Shape: Glass type includes blown glass, colored, cut, frosted, cast, alabaster, clear, clouded, crystal, and many more. Crystal chandeliers work well in very formal rooms, where a colored or blown glass type would work well in an artisan style home. Glass shapes can be globes, bells, cones, hexagons, cups or bowls. Glass types and shapes vary greatly and can be personalized to match any décor.
· Lamp Type: A variety of lamp types are available, such as halogen and incandescent. Halogen lamps give off white light, which is the closest to natural sunlight. Colors appear softer. Also, halogen lamps save energy. Incandescent lamps have a warm quality and are very inviting. The function of the room in which the chandelier is to be used should help to determine the lamp type that is needed. Also, the room’s color is important in determining how much light is needed. A darker room would require more light than a lighter room for general tasks.
· Features: There are a number of features available for modern chandeliers. They can include shades, pot racks or hooks, decorative accents, or other accessories. Hand painted and non-electrified styles are also available. It is possible to customize a chandelier to your own desires and tastes.
