Fans cost anywhere from fifty to five hundred dollars, so take your time and pick out one that fits your needs. Hunter is one of several quality fan manufacturers, but there are several, so shop around at hardware stores and home improvement warehouses.

First of all, measure your room to see what size fan you should buy. A thirty-six inch fan fits a one hundred square foot room while a room of 144 square feet looks best with a forty-two inch fan. Put simply, the larger your room is, the larger your fan should be.

As you consider different models and manufacturers, make sure you purchase a durable fan. One sign of a durable fan might be a quality and extensive warranty. A fan motor should last for years, but it should also run quietly during those years. Turn the fan on and listen carefully to see if you can hear the motor; you will not want to hear the motor run as you sit in a quiet room at home, so make sure of its silence at the store.

The blades should be of equal weight, and many materials make acceptable blades, but do not purchase blades made of solid wood, as these will have problems with humidity. Regardless of what their material is, make sure that the blades are treated to resist humidity. You should also look at the angles of the blades; they should be approximately fifteen percent so as to have the greatest possible effect on airflow.

In addition, you should purchase a fan that has features and a style that you want. Fans that have wall switches are convenient, as are fans that run at high and low speeds. For most shoppers, the style of a fan (and attached light fixture) is important, so again, consider the atmosphere that you want to create and choose a fan that contributes to that ambiance.

Finally, take advantage of your fan’s energy saving potential by purchasing a fan that circulates as much as air as possible. Fans will often save you forty percent in utility costs during the summer and ten percent in the summer, however, ceiling fans that receive the Energy Star label save you even more.
