My fan is shaking.
If your fan is still under warranty, the easiest solution might be to call the manufacturer and ask what you should do. Otherwise, stand on a chair or stool and look at the blades from eye level. If a blade is only slightly bent, very carefully mold it back into shape. If you have any problems bending the blade, however, stop working and call the manufacturer, as you don’t want the blades to snap. If the blades are not bent, however, the blades are probably unbalanced. If this is the case, go to a hardware store or similar store and purchase a balancing kit that includes balancing instructions. Basically, these kits allow you to add weight to a blade to bring your fan back into balance.
How do I take care of my fan?
Fans are very simple to use and maintain. To use them, all you need to do is flip a switch or pull a cord. To maintain them, simply clean them from time to time; use a duster to dust over the blades as they need it, and wipe over the motor housing with a cloth.
In addition, you should switch the direction of your blades to keep them energy efficient year-round. The fan blades should point down in the summer, but they should point up in the winter so that they will catch hot air as it rises, push it into the ceiling and back down along the side walls. Many fans have a simple up/down switch that you can flip every six months to change which way the blades will point.
