Each room in your home has different lighting needs and requirements. Accent lighting can be used to enhance any room in your home.

• Living room or family room – This room may require a combination of lighting types. You may want lamps to accommodate the activities that take place such as watching television or reading but you may also need access to some bright overhead light for activities such as cleaning the room. You will also generally have some type of artwork or a fireplace to highlight in your living room in which case you could use a type of spotlight. A low voltage halogen is a good choice for a spotlight.
• Kitchen – In the kitchen you will need some good task light to focus on the areas where you will be cooking. Under cabinet lights are good choices in the kitchen along with lighting above your cabinets for additional lighting. Lighting the ceiling in this way also helps expand the space and can add visual interest to the room.
• Dining room – This room generally has some type of chandelier in the middle of the room to spotlight the table. You may want to add sconces on the wall to add additional lighting or to accent a piece of furniture such as a buffet or hutch.
• Entry, halls, and stairways – These areas typically require the use of matching wall brackets or sconces that match the hanging entry fixture. Be sure to always mount a sconce above eye level so the light source cannot be seen.
